Artist Statement: For my text pot I chose LGBTQ+ rights for my message writing "not too broken" to represent my own experience feeling left out and wrong in the world. I think it's important for people to know that they aren't broken just because they're different. From a technical standpoint, I'm not super happy with my pot - I didn't really understand how to use the underglaze and I just covered the whole thing in it, I didn't realize I was supposed to scrub it away until it just filled in the letter until after I had already fired it. You can't really see the words at all because of the glaze mistakes that I made but I did end up like how the pot looks either way. I used too much clear glaze which is what gives it the blue splotches and I think it looks nice with this little pot.
Dish For Your Dish Final
Artist Statement: I wanted to make the perfect soup bowl, with a divet in the middle that would be spoon shaped. It ended up being a little bit bigger than I had meant for it to be, so I think that it would also work well as a vegetable and dip bowl or something of that sort. I do love the color of the bowl, the same color that I decided to you for the outside of my final Discover Your Path pieces.
Discover Your Path Final
Artist Statement: My initial inspiration for these pieces was a pun - what if I made a mug with a hand-le? As in a handle that was also a hand. I made three pieces following this similar idea. The first piece simply had a finger for its handle, the second piece had an arm with a hand on it, and the third didn't have a handle, but a hand against the side of it, as if it was holding up the cup. I threw the main bodies of all three cups, and hand sculpted the additional appendages. Another thing that I added to my mugs, was human feet instead of trimming a standard foot on my mug. I love how these pieces turned out. If I had had more time, I would have used more colors for the outside, to reflect all sorts of different flesh tones, but due to a lack of time, I used the same light pink and dark red for all three of my mugs.
